A packaging machine OEM needed a compact controller to handle logic sequencing, conveyor coordination, and communication with multiple ABB ACS drives for speed control. The ABB PM5032-T-ETH was selected as the main PLC. Its onboard digital inputs monitored sensors and safety interlocks, while the transistor outputs controlled solenoids and relays. The integrated Ethernet port allowed the PM5032-T-ETH to act as a Modbus TCP master, reading speed feedback from the drives and sending setpoints. This setup eliminated the need for a separate communication module, reducing cabinet space and cost while maintaining precise synchronization between the drives and the packaging process.
