Although Siemens has long since wound down S5 new production, the 6ES5445-3AA12​ remains a staple spare for brownfield racks that were specified around the compact K footprint and can’t spare two slots for a 16-channel isolated alternative.h2 Application ScenariosIn a beverage filler’s packaging hall, the S5-135U rack that sequences the palletizer’s roller conveyors and lane diverters originally specified two 6ES5445-3AA12​ modules to drive 64 pneumatic solenoid coils (ASCO 24 V DC, 0.4 A inrush) plus 32 tower-light segments across the operator stations. Twenty-two years later, during a “spare parts risk” audit, the plant discovered the -3AA12 was long deleted with no S5-era successor. Their first impulse — substitute the isolated 6ES5450 sibling — collapsed when they realized the 450 comes only in full-width, non-compact form and would force a rack reshuffle with terminal-block rewiring across 64 solenoid field loops.
