Description
The ABB 200-IP2 (often referenced as 200IP2) is a specialized 2-Channel Pulse Counter Input Module designed for high-speed frequency and pulse acquisition in industrial automation systems. Part of ABB’s legacy MasterPiece MP200/MP300 or Procontic families, this module is engineered to interface directly with rotary encoders, tachometers, flow meters, and proximity switches. The 200-IP2 accurately counts high-frequency pulses, measures rotational speed (RPM), and calculates totalized values, converting raw field signals into precise digital data for the central controller. Its robust design features noise immunity and high input impedance, making it ideal for critical applications in power generation, material handling, and process control where accurate speed and position feedback are paramount.
Application Scenarios
In a high-speed bottling plant, a conveyor system relies on rotary encoders to synchronize the movement of bottles with filling nozzles and capping heads. The existing control system, based on an ABB MasterPiece architecture, began experiencing intermittent counting errors due to aging input modules, leading to misaligned caps and product waste. The engineering team replaced the faulty units with genuine ABB 200-IP2 modules. The 200-IP2’s high-frequency response capability (up to several kHz) instantly captured the encoder pulses without missing counts, even during rapid acceleration and deceleration phases. This restoration of precise synchronization reduced product rejection rates by 95% and ensured the line could maintain its maximum design speed of 600 bottles per minute, highlighting the 200-IP2’s crucial role in maintaining production efficiency.
