Description
The ABB 200-CICN and 200-CIE are specialized communication interface modules designed for the ABB Advant OCS and MasterPiece 200/300 controller families. The 200-CICN acts as a robust master or slave node on ControlNet networks, facilitating high-speed, deterministic data exchange ideal for time-critical control applications. The 200-CIE provides a versatile Ethernet interface, supporting standard TCP/IP and often EtherNet/IP protocols, enabling seamless integration with modern HMIs, SCADA systems, and enterprise databases. Together, these modules empower legacy ABB systems to participate in contemporary industrial networks without requiring a full controller replacement, ensuring continued operational efficiency and data visibility.
Application Scenarios
A large chemical processing plant utilizing an ABB Advant OCS system for reactor control needed to integrate real-time production data into a new plant-wide Historian system located on the corporate Ethernet network. The existing controller lacked native Ethernet capabilities, creating a data silo. By installing the ABB 200-CIE module into the controller rack, engineers established a secure TCP/IP link. The 200-CIE efficiently mapped internal process variables to Modbus TCP tags, allowing the Historian to poll data every second without impacting the controller’s primary logic scan time. Simultaneously, for a separate unit requiring tight synchronization with variable speed drives, the plant deployed the ABB 200-CICN to connect the controller to a ControlNet backbone. This dual approach demonstrated how the 200-CICN and 200-CIE can coexist to solve diverse connectivity challenges, turning an isolated legacy system into a fully integrated digital asset.
