Description
Application Scenarios
In a redundant ControlLogix architecture used for critical process monitoring, Sequence of Events (SOE) modules must record the exact order of contact closures and trips across multiple chassis. Without a common, highly accurate time reference, events occurring milliseconds apart on different SOE cards cannot be reliably sequenced—a problem that obscures root-cause analysis during plant trips. The Hiprom 1756HP-TIME solves this by acting as the CST (Coordinated System Time) master for the chassis, distributing UTC and CST time pairs to each SOE module so that every input transition is stamped against a GPS-referenced clock. In a Rockwell-documented configuration, the module synchronizes to GPS satellites and then serves as the PTP grandmaster, with the Ethernet bridge acting as a boundary clock between the TIME module and the Logix controller. The result is a unified time base across the entire redundant pair, allowing engineers to reconstruct event sequences with confidence.
