In a large chemical plant in Taiyuan, Shanxi, the existing DCS system needed to integrate dozens of new PROFIBUS PA pressure and temperature transmitters located in a classified hazardous area (Zone 2). The control cabinet was already equipped with an ABB HS 820 Head Station for DP connectivity. By installing the ABB PL810 module alongside the head station to form an LD 800P device, engineers were able to extend the network without additional complex wiring. The PL810 supplied stable 24V power directly over the PA bus, eliminating the need for separate power supplies in the field. This setup reduced installation costs by 25% and provided seamless diagnostic data from the field devices back to the ABB AC 800M controller.
