Description
The Bently Nevada 3500/34 is a high-density, 16-channel relay module designed for the Bently Nevada 3500 Machinery Protection System. This module serves as the critical interface between the digital monitoring logic and the physical control systems of a plant. It provides 16 independent Form C (SPDT) relay contacts that can be programmed to actuate based on alarm conditions from other modules within the 3500 rack, such as vibration or temperature monitors.
Engineered for flexibility and reliability, the Bently Nevada 3500/34 allows users to create complex logic schemes without the need for external hard-wired relays. Whether used for simple alarm annunciation or critical emergency shutdown (ESD) tripping, this module ensures that machine protection commands are executed with speed and precision.
Application Scenarios
In a large offshore oil platform, the Bently Nevada 3500/34 is utilized to manage the complex shutdown logic for a gas lift compressor. The compressor is monitored by various sensors for vibration, bearing temperature, and gas leaks.
The platform engineers configured the Bently Nevada 3500/34 to act as the central trip logic solver. If the vibration monitor (3500/42M) detects a “Danger” level, or if the temperature monitor (3500/60) detects an overheat condition, the signal is sent via the 3500 backplane to the Bently Nevada 3500/34. The specific relay channel then closes, cutting power to the compressor’s fuel supply valve. This rapid, automated response prevents a potential explosion or catastrophic mechanical failure, highlighting the module’s role as the “muscle” of the protection system.
