Description
The Bently Nevada 3500/05 is a high-performance system rack (chassis) that serves as the physical and electrical backbone for the Bently Nevada 3500 Machinery Protection System. Designed to house up to 14 modules, this rack provides the necessary power distribution, data communication pathways, and structural support for critical monitoring components such as vibration monitors, temperature scanners, and communication gateways.
As the central hub of the protection system, the Bently Nevada 3500/05 ensures that all installed modules operate in unison. It features a robust, rack-mountable design suitable for 19-inch standard equipment cabinets, making it the industry standard for protecting steam turbines, compressors, and other critical turbomachinery in power generation and oil & gas facilities.
Application Scenarios
In a large LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) export terminal, the Bently Nevada 3500/05 serves as the central nervous system for the main refrigerant compressor train. This compressor is driven by a gas turbine and is critical to the facility’s throughput; its failure would result in millions of dollars in lost production per day.
The system integrator installed a Bently Nevada 3500/05 rack in the local equipment shelter. Inside the rack, they populated slots with various monitors: a 3500/42M for vibration, a 3500/22M for transient data, and a 3500/25 for Keyphasor signals. The Bently Nevada 3500/05 rack provided the common backplane that allowed these modules to share data seamlessly. When the compressor experienced a surge event, the vibration monitor detected the anomaly and, through the rack’s internal communication bus, instantly signaled the 3500/61 relay module to trip the turbine. The Bently Nevada 3500/05 effectively coordinated the protection logic, preventing catastrophic mechanical damage.
