Description
Application Scenarios:
In a continuous process chemical plant, a distributed S800 I/O rack controlling a highly exothermic reactor’s cooling valves and temperature sensors experienced sporadic, unexplained resets. These events, lasting only milliseconds, were enough to cause brief communication faults and required manual acknowledgment, posing a safety risk. Investigation revealed that voltage sags on the plant’s 24VDC distribution bus, caused by the startup of nearby large motors, were affecting the I/O rack’s internal power supply. Replacing the standard supply with the ABB YT204001-JT YXU169F power supply board resolved the issue. Its advanced design with superior input filtering and hold-up capacitance effectively “rides through” these short-term sags. Furthermore, its tightly regulated outputs prevented any noise from propagating to the sensitive analog input modules measuring reactor temperature. The result was the complete elimination of the nuisance resets, creating a “clean power island” for the critical safety controls, thereby enhancing process stability and safety system reliability.
