Description
Application Scenarios
In a high-speed packaging line, a master ACS 800 drive controls the main line shaft, while several follower drives operate individual sections that must maintain perfect synchrony to prevent product tearing or misalignment. Each follower drive relies on a high-resolution incremental encoder mounted directly on its motor shaft to provide real-time speed and position feedback. The raw encoder signals, however, are weak, susceptible to electrical noise from nearby motors and variable frequency drives (VFDs), and operate at different voltage levels than the drive’s control board can accept. Here, the ABB YPM106E module is indispensable. Installed within each drive’s control unit, it receives the delicate differential sine wave signals (A, B, and Z pulses) from the encoder. Its internal circuitry performs differential-to-single-ended conversion, amplifies the signal, applies heavy noise filtering, and squares the waveform. Most importantly, it provides high-voltage galvanic isolation, protecting the drive’s sensitive electronics from any transients or ground loops on the motor side. The YPM106E then outputs a robust, TTL-level square wave that the drive’s Digital Signal Processor (DSP) can use for flawless, high-speed velocity calculation, ensuring all sections of the line move in perfect harmony.
