Description
Application Scenarios
In a large chemical processing facility, engineers are deploying a distributed control system for a critical compressor train consisting of four large ABB drives that must operate in perfect torque and speed synchronisation. Using copper cabling for communication between the drives over such distances and in an electrically noisy environment is not feasible. The solution is to implement a fiber-optic communication ring using the DriveBus protocol. Here, the ABB YPC111A optical distributor module becomes the network’s central nervous system. Installed in a central cabinet, it receives the optical signal from the master drive and efficiently distributes it to the three follower drives, creating a high-integrity, noise-immune communication loop. The YPC111A ensures that synchronisation commands and status data reach all nodes reliably, enabling the precise control needed to prevent damaging torsional vibrations and ensuring the entire train operates as a single, cohesive unit.
