Description
Application Scenarios:
In a large chemical processing plant, a single, critical pressure transmitter monitoring a reactor vessel needed to send its 4-20mA signal to three separate destinations simultaneously: the primary DCS for control, a safety instrumented system (SIS) for independent protection, and a local data logger for historical analysis. Wiring the transmitter directly to all three systems created a ground loop, causing a fluctuating and unreliable signal that jeopardized both process control and safety. The installation of an ABB XV371A signal distribution module elegantly solved this problem. The transmitter was wired to the module’s input. The XV371A then provided three completely isolated, rock-solid 4-20mA output channels, one routed to each receiving system. This eliminated the ground loop, protected all systems from potential transients, and ensured that the pressure reading was consistent and accurate across the entire plant, directly addressing the critical pain point of signal integrity and multi-destination routing.
