The Allen-Bradley 1756-L63S​ is a GuardLogix Safety Partner controller in the Rockwell Automation Logix5000 family, supplied with 8 MB of user memory. It is one half of a redundant GuardLogix safety system: the Allen-Bradley 1756-L63S​ contains the safety memory and the safety runtime, but it is not a standalone controller and cannot execute a safety application by itself. In a compliant architecture it is installed in the same chassis as a Primary controller—a 1756-L61, L62, L63, L64 or L65—and takes over execution of the safety tasks within one task period of the Primary detecting a fault. This division of roles is the reason the Allen-Bradley 1756-L63S​ is described as a Safety Partner rather than as a processor in its own right.The safety capability of the Allen-Bradley 1756-L63S​ is built on a dual-channel, fault-tolerant architecture. Two processors execute the safety application in lockstep, compare results, and drive two sets of safety outputs; any disagreement forces the outputs to a safe state. The system is certified to IEC 61508 SIL 3, EN 954-1 / ISO 13849-1 PL e, and EN 62061 SIL CL 3, with a proof-test interval of 20 years and a safety application scan time of 1 ms. The controller supports up to 4,000 I/O points, 512 program files, 1,000 tasks and 250 phases, and its event task can handle 12 channels with a 500 µs period and 250 µs response time—performance that places it well inside the timing requirements of most machine-safety and process-safety shutdown functions.Configuration and programming are handled in Studio 5000 Logix Designer / RSLogix 5000 (version 16 or later, revision 16.03 or later) using the GuardLogix safety add-on profile, with a dedicated safety password protecting the safety portion of the project. Safety I/O is connected over CIP Safety via EtherNet/IP or ControlNet through a 1756-EN2T, 1756-EN2TR or 1756-CN2R communication module. The Allen-Bradley 1756-L63S​ carries three status LEDs for controller health, safety status and I/O health, together with an LCD status display on the module face, and it supports the full Logix5000 instruction set for both standard and safety programming.
