Application Scenarios
A power generation station uses 125 VDC control power for switchgear status indication, protective relay contacts, and breaker auxiliary switches. These signals originate from different sections of the electrical yard, where ground potentials can differ by several volts due to fault currents and grounding grid resistance. A standard non-isolated input module would create ground loops through its shared common, causing false status indications or damaging input circuits during ground faults. The 1756-IH16I solves this by providing 250 V continuous isolation between each of its 16 input points, allowing contacts from different switchgear sections to be monitored in a single ControlLogix chassis without external isolation relays . When a breaker auxiliary contact changes state, the module’s change-of-state detection can trigger an immediate data update to the controller, and the selectable filter time (0, 1, or 2 ms for OFF-to-ON; 0, 1, 2, 9, or 18 ms for ON-to-OFF) allows the engineer to reject contact bounce while preserving fast response for critical status changes .
