The Allen-Bradley 1746-A10​ is a ten-slot modular chassis that serves as the mechanical and electrical foundation of an Allen-Bradley SLC 500 programmable controller system. As part of the Bulletin 1746 modular hardware family, the 1746-A10​ provides a passive backplane that both physically hosts and electrically interconnects an SLC 500 processor or I/O adapter, a dedicated power supply, and up to ten SLC 500 I/O modules. Rather than simply acting as a metal frame, the 1746-A10​ distributes regulated logic and auxiliary power along the backplane and carries the parallel bus signals that let the processor address every module seated in the rack.In a typical installation, the power supply mounts in the leftmost position of the 1746-A10, while the processor or remote I/O adapter occupies the first I/O slot, and the remaining nine positions accept digital, analog, communication or specialty modules. The chassis is engineered for panel mounting inside an industrial enclosure and relies on natural convection cooling, so there are no fans or filters to service. Two 1746-A10 units — or a mix of 1746-A4, 1746-A7, 1746-A10 and 1746-A13 chassis — can be linked with 1746-C9 or 1746-C7 interconnect cables, allowing up to three chassis and thirty I/O slots under a single processor, with each chassis requiring its own power supply.Because the Allen-Bradley 1746-A10​ has been deployed for decades across water treatment, material handling, packaging and process plants, it remains one of the most requested spare parts for maintaining installed SLC 500 systems.
